Weatherman releases heavy rainfall warning for parts of the country

Kenyans have been warned to expect heavy rainfall beginning Saturday until Tuesday 30th December.

In a statement, the Kenya Meteorological Department says the heavy rainfall of more than 20millimeters in 24 hours is expected in parts of the South Eastern lowlands on 27th December 2025.

“The rainfall is likely to intensify to morethan30millimeters in 24hrs and spread to parts of the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, as well as the Southern parts of the Coastal region of Kenya on28th and 29th December 2025,” says the Deputy Director of Meteorological Service Kennedy Thiong’o and adds, “It is projected to reduce in intensity on 30th December 2025.”

Among the areas expected to receive the heavy rainfall include the counties of: Nairobi City County, Migori, Homa Bay, Kisii, Narok and Kajiado. The others are Makueni, Machakos, Kericho, Bomet, Southern parts of Kitui, Taita-Taveta and Kwale.

In the advisory copied to the Presidency, the security agencies and the line ministries, Thiong’o is advising residents in the areas that have been identified, to be on the lookout for potential floods and adds that the Kenya Meteorological Department will continue to update promptly on any changes.
