Kenyan children are set to take center stage in the upcoming Africa Children Summit (ACS) 2025 Kenya Pre-Summit, an event designed to ensure that children are Seen, Heard, and Engaged in shaping policies and programs that impact their lives and wellbeing.
The Pre-Summit will take place from February 28th to March 1st, 2025, at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) in Nairobi. It will bring together over 100 children from all 47 counties in Kenya to co-create discussions and offer key recommendations on issues affecting them.
This platform will also engage stakeholders, including policymakers and organizations, ensuring that children’s voices are heard and acted upon.
What is the Africa Children Summit?
The Africa Children’s Summit (ACS) is a regional platform that empowers children to participate in policymaking and decision-making. It was launched to amplify children’s voices at both national and continental levels and to ensure their input shapes policies that affect their lives.
The journey of ACS began with the inaugural ACS 2023, held in Nairobi, Kenya, where over 300 children from across Africa came together to discuss critical issues, including child participation in governance, climate change, education, violence, and access to healthcare.
Led by children and supported by Mtoto News, the summit successfully ensured that children’s voices reached global leaders, including representatives from the United Nations (UN) and the African Union (AU).
Building on this momentum, ACS 2025 will take place from April 4 to April 7, 2025, in Johannesburg, South Africa, hosted by the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund (NMCF).
This continental gathering will convene over 200 children from all five African regions, creating a platform for young voices to assess progress, address challenges, and propose solutions.
ACS champions child-led advocacy, inclusivity, and cross-sector collaboration, ensuring African children are not just participants but active agents of change.
