Athletics Kenya has nominated and endorsed its Youth Director, Barnaba Korir, for the elective position of First Vice President in the upcoming elections of the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) on April 24, 2025.
AK has President Lt Gen (Rtd) Jack Tuwei who has exuded confidence in Korir, who is a dedicated executive member of Athletics Kenya and also serving as an executive member, and his ability and capacity to serve the Kenyan Olympics body effectively for the next four years.
“The entire executive of Athletics Kenya is united in our decision to nominate Barnaba Korir for the post of first vice president of the National Olympic Committee of Kenya,” Athletics Kenya president Lt Gen (Rtd) Jack Tuwei said.
“For over two decades, he has been crucial in helping Kenyan athletes grow and succeed in major competitions worldwide. His instrumental role in organising key athletic events here at home, including the Absa Kip Keino Classic, World Athletics Cross Country Tour Gold – Sirikwa Classic, the Nairobi City Marathon, ISF World School Cross Country Championship, among others, further demonstrates his dedication to our sport. “We are confident NOCK will greatly benefit from Mr Korir’s strong capacity building, excellent organisational skills and vast network of professionals from around the world. This nomination reflects our collective belief in his ability to serve.”
Barnaba Korir has served the National Olympic Committee of Kenya as an executive member for the last four years. Due to his outstanding leadership, he was made the Deputy Chef de Mission of Team Kenya to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Previously, he served as the Chef de Mission of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
