Joseph Nyaga and Kendra Masiga emerged winners of the men’s and women’s categories respectively during the 7th edition of Arabuko Sokoke MTG Cycling challenge held in Watamu,Kilifi County.
Nyaga braved the chilly and rainy Watamu weather to finish the men’s race in 3 Hours and 29 seconds while Bernard Njoroge and Ephantus Gicheru were placed in second and third positions respectively.
Kendra Masiga of team Black Mamba Development Squad topped the women’s category in 4 hours 11 minutes while Nancy Debe of team Kothbiro was placed second after posting 4 hours 11 minutes as Monica Jelimo completed the podium dash.
Participants expressed their delight in taking part in the race and the initiative the races’ course.
“Cycling for a cause like this is incredibly rewarding,” said cyclist Sarah Ndung’u. “Despite the rain, we’re out here showing our support for the children and the environment.”
A total of 63 riders took part in the race organized by ARocha Kenya, an environmental organization dedicated to conservation and community development.
“Today is not just about cycling; it’s about making a difference in the lives of these children. The funds we raise will go directly to education initiatives in the forest communities, helping to ensure that children have access to learning resources and opportunities,” said Patrick Kilimo, the event coordinator for ARocha Kenya.
