Dominant Kipyegon claims third world title in a row over 1500m

Defending champion Faith Kipyegon dominated the 1500m final to claim her 3rd global title in a row and 4th overall at the World Athletics Championships on Tuesday evening in Tokyo,Japan.

Kipyegon who is also a triple Olympic champion led from gun to tape to successfully defend her 2023 title in 3 minutes 52.15 seconds, while debutant Dorcas Ewoi out-sprinted Australia’s Jessica Hull for silver medal in
3:54.94.

Hull bagged bronze in 3:5.15 ahead of 4th placed Nelly Chepchirchir of Kenya.

Kipyegon who is also hold the World record in the same race is the 1st athlete to win 4 global title in 1500m after emerging champion in 2017,2022,2023 and 2025.

With 4 titles Kipyegon is the 2nd athlete with many title after Jamaica’s Shelly -Ann Fraser Pryce who won five gold medals in 100m.

Kenya still remains in 2nd position in the medal table with 3 gold 1 silver and 1 bronze behind leaders USA with 6 gold and 2 bronze medals.
