Police in Busia have arrested a man after he was found with 23 packages of suspected bhang during a security patrol along the Malenya border point.
The suspect was arrested by officers from Busia Police Station and Mayenje Police Post who were conducting routine patrols when they intercepted a speeding motorcycle.
A search of the motorcycle led to the recovery of the 23 packages of suspected bhang.
The suspect is being held in police custody pending arraignment in court.
The motorcycle and suspected drugs have been secured as exhibits.
The National Police Service (NPS) said the arrest forms part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and other criminal activities in the area.
The service commended the officers for their efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks and enhance security along the border.
“The National Police Service reiterates its firm stance against drug trafficking and any other criminal activities and commends the officers for their sustained efforts in dismantling drug trafficking networks,” NPS said.
