The first batch of tenants for the affordable housing units in Mukuru in Nairobi County are expected to take residency this December.
Speaking during the inspection at Mukuru Meteorological Site, Housing and Urban Development, Secretary, Eng. Benjamin Njenga said the first phase of the project is 99 percent done with the contractor putting up lifts to serve those who will reside in the houses.
The first phase is part of the 13,000 housing units being constructed in Mukuru.
Eng. Njenga says 100,000 affordable housing units are currently under construction across the country.
This comes as part of a broader initiative by the government to eradicate informal settlements in the country and provide decent and affordable houses.
The Affordable Housing Project is oncourse with over 100,000 housing units being constructed across the country concurrently.
