Kenyan poet Dominion clinched second place at the 2025 World Poetry Slam Championships in Ciudad, Juarez, Mexico.

The Kenyan poet whose real name is Moses Kiptoo Kiprono, scored 59.7 points, just 0.1 points behind the overall winner King Yaw of Ghana. The World Poetry Slam Championships was held from May 30 to June 1st 2025, with participants from 40 countries.

Dominion who is the reigning Poetry Slam Africa Champion, blends sharp commentary with deep introspection, tackling everything from identity struggles to the absurdities of modern life. His inspiration came as a teenager in Eldoret when he watched the renowned poet Mufasa on television, and he then took up the challenge by turning words into powerful narratives.

Beyond the stage, Dominion collaborates with youth organisations and social justice groups, to amplify voices that are underrepresented. With a blend of activism, humour, and unapologetic authenticity, Dominion is proving that spoken word doesn’t just entertain—it has the power to change the world, one clever line at a time.
