Kenya’s beloved street food mutura, received a makeover when chefs at a Nairobi hotel began flambéing the traditional sausage with premium spiced rum.

The experimental approach was showcased at Holiday Inn Nairobi Two Rivers during an exclusive tasting event in partnership with Captain Morgan, featuring a specially designed menu that reimagines classic Kenyan cuisine with rum-based preparations and pairings.

Led by Executive Chef Aluda, the event featured live cooking demonstrations where guests observed the preparation of rum-infused versions of popular local dishes.

The highlight of the event was spiced mutura flambéed with rum and served alongside ugali and kachumbari.

“Captain Morgan is all about unleashing your flavour, and this partnership brought that to life in the most creative and delicious way,” said Davis Changalwa, Brand Manager for Captain Morgan. “This is a bold celebration of Kenyan flavour and flair.”

Guests also enjoyed beef samosas prepared with slow-cooked minced meat and spiced rum, rum-glazed vegetable samosas and flamed haggis with mukimo. Each dish was accompanied by a signature rum cocktail.

Dessert options featured warm pineapple sundae with rum sauce and coconut rum balls made with oats, raisins and condensed milk.

The event’s success proved that traditional Kenyan cuisine can be made in a different way while maintaining its cultural authenticity.
