Kenya’s Benard Biwott took a comfortable victory in the men’s elite race at the 2025 Paris Marathon held on Sunday with Bedatu Hirpa of Ethiopia taking the women’s event.
Biwott, who won on his marathon debut in Frankfurt last October, moved clear from a lead group of nine runners with around 10km to go in the 42.195km contest.
And the 22-year-old came home on his own in 2:05:25, 29 seconds inside his time from Frankfurt. Ibrahim Hassan of Djibouti was second in 2:06:13 with another Kenyan, Sila Kiptoo, eight seconds further back in third.
There was a one-two for Ethiopia in the women’s race as Hirpa outsprinted Dera Dida to the finish line. Hirpa took victory in 2:20:45.
Dida crossed the line four seconds later with Kenya’s Angela Tanui third in 2:21:07.
