Housing project will provide jobs, shelter for residents, says Governor Waiguru

Kirinyaga County Governor, Anne Waiguru has thanked president Ruto for initiating yet another low cost housing project in Kirinyaga County.

The new project consisting of 110 housing units will take place in Kianyaga Town, Gichugu Constituency and will occupy a 1.5 acres piece of land.

Speaking during the project groundbreaking by the President, Waiguru said that the houses will not only provide decent affordable shelter for the beneficiaries but will also be a source of employment for hundreds of residents who will provide services during the various phases of the construction.

A similar project is ongoing in Kerugoya Town where about 600 units are expected to come up.

President Ruto said that the government aims at putting up 10,000 affordable housing units in Kirinyaga.

He reiterated his commitment in supporting Kirinyaga County in various development project including the upcoming Sagana Industrial Park for which his government had allocated a matching grant of Ksh. 250 million and will spend another Ksh. 5 billion on the industrial park whose groundbreaking will be done before the end of this year.

At the same time he promised to support Waiguru’s administration in rehabilitation of General Kasam Stadium as well as installation of 15 milk coolers to support the dairy farmers. Governor Waiguru pledged to allocate Ksh. 100 million for the stadium while the National Government tops up the rest.

Upon request by Waiguru, Ruto promised to allocate Ksh. 200 million for equipping the upcoming Kianyaga Level Four Hospital Complex once its completed.

The national government will also set aside Ksh. 60 million for procurement of medical kits for community health workers.

On distribution of subsidized fertilizer to farmers, Governor Waiguru promised to establish stores at the sub county level where the fertilizer can be delivered in order to ease access for the farmers.

Ruto once again asked Kenyans to reject politics of violence and reinstated that there will be no handshake with the opposition neither will he be intimidated through street demonstrations to allow opposition into government.

He told off those criticizing his visit to Mt. Kenya saying he will continue with his development tour across the country.
