The Government has intensified the expansion of healthcare services with the construction of a new 250-bed hospital block in Kapsabet, Nandi County.
Presiding over the groundbreaking ceremony at Kapsabet County Referral Hospital, Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya reaffirmed President William Ruto’s commitment to transforming the health sector.
The Cabinet Secretary said President Ruto’s administration remains firmly focused on delivering quality and accessible healthcare for all Kenyans.
“Earlier today we broke ground for the new hospital block at Kapsabet County Referral Hospital, marking a significant milestone towards strengthening health infrastructure within the region.”
Emphasising the importance of the new hospital, particularly for the communities living in the area, she noted that the facility will significantly expand health services in the region.
“The Government of Kenya remains firmly committed to transforming our health sector and ensure that the Constitutional guarantee for the highest attainable standard of health is availed to every Kenyan,” CS Tuya said.
She added that the proposed three-storey facility, designed to host 250 patients, will greatly expand the hospital’s capacity and enhance the range and quality of services available to the people of Nandi and neighbouring counties.
The new hospital is one of 21 health facilities that the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is spearheading across the country as the expansion of health services and infrastructure gains momentum.
While the initiative is led by the Nandi County Government, CS Tuya noted that the Ministry of Defence will serve as the project manager, “ensuring the project is delivered on time and to standard.”
Nandi County Governor Stephen Sang, who attended the ceremony, said the upgraded complex will significantly expand access to quality healthcare by increasing capacity, improving specialised services, and enhancing the overall efficiency of patient care.
He noted that the project marks a transformative step toward meeting the growing health needs of the community, adding that President Ruto had promised locals a new hospital and the groundbreaking confirmed that commitment.
“We extend our heartfelt appreciation to His Excellency President Dr William Samoei Ruto for his steadfast support and commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure. His leadership has been instrumental in making this development a reality and in advancing the well-being of the people,” said Governor Sang.
Also in attendance were Defence Principal Secretary Dr Patrick Mariru, Brigadier Titus Sokobe (Chief of Infrastructure at the Kenya Defence Forces), area MP Josses Lelmengit, Tinderet MP Julius Melly, and several Members of the County Assembly.
