Mudavadi holds talks with Chinese envoy ahead of visit by Beijing delegation

On Tuesday, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi met and held talks with the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, Zhou Pingjian at his offices in Nairobi.

The meeting, which was also attended by Chinese Deputy Head of Mission to Kenya Zhang Zhizhong, according to Kenya’s Foreign Ministry, “focused on the follow-up to the Prime Cabinet Secretary’s visit to China earlier this year during which both sides discussed and agreed to enhance the strategic partnership between Kenya and China in mutual areas of interest,”

“Kenya and China’s relations date back to the pre-independence period, and both countries have maintained a close partnership based on mutual trust and respect for the benefit of the peoples of Kenya and China,” the Ministry said in a statement

During a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing in January, Mudavadi said “practical cooperation between Kenya and China has achieved remarkable results” and that the joint construction of the Belt and Road has provided strong support for Kenya’s national construction and economic development.

He said his office will actively engage with senior Chinese government representatives to strengthen collaboration in trade, investment, and security.

The Chinese Ambassador, the ministry said, conveyed a message of gratitude from the leadership of the People’s Republic of China to Mudavadi and the Kenyan government following the success of the Prime CS’s official visit to Beijing.

Mudavadi’s office further indicated that Wednesday’s discussions touched on the upcoming visits by high-profile Chinese delegations expected in Kenya later this month.
