The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders have issued a strong call for unity within the party, urging members to consolidate their strength ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during a memorial service of Raila Odinga in Homa Bay Town, Acting ODM Party Leader Senator Oburu Oginga appealed to ODM leaders nationwide to prioritize unity, warning that a fragmented party risks losing political leverage.

Oburu described ODM as the “precious gold” left behind by the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, stressing that the party’s future rests in collective strength.

“If you don’t unite, nobody will respect you. And if you are a weak party, nobody will want to negotiate with you,” he said, reiterating that political negotiations are driven by numbers and voter strength.

He further urged grassroots supporters to turn out in large numbers for the upcoming voter registration exercise, noting that voter turnout is crucial to the party’s influence.

“Your vote is the only weapon we have to change this country. You cannot change a nation without a vote,” he said

“You can only make changes in this country through the ballot. And that is the only democratic principle for which Raila Odinga stood. Nobody will respect you when they know you are just a talker and don’t have a vote,” he noted.

ODM Chairperson Gladys Wanga echoed Oburu’s message, reaffirming the party’s commitment to the broad-based government arrangement formed under Raila Odinga’s guidance.

“We will remain in support of the administration of President William Samoei Ruto. We will remain inside the broad-based government because that is what we agreed with Baba Raila Odinga,” she said.

Wanga added that ODM is preparing strategically for 2027, projecting that the party will either form the next government or be part of the coalition that will do so.

Minority Leader Junet Mohamed reinforced the unity call, insisting that ODM will remain intact and fully engaged in national governance under the broad-based framework.

“Sisi kama watu wa ODM tutabaki pamoja… tukijiandaa kwa ajili ya uchaguzi wa 2027. Wale wanafikiri ODM itatoka nje ya broad-based government wanaota ndoto. Tuko ndani kabisa.” He said
